Aidan Augustin, co-founder of Feathr, a marketing platform for events, embodies the entrepreneurial ideal of embracing failure, learning from it and returning stronger than before. "We rose, we failed, we rebooted. We rose again, we failed again and we rebooted again," he said. "That cycle is key to understanding our evolution as a company and as entrepreneurs."
Since the second reboot, Feathr has successfully raised an investment round of angel funding and another of venture capital funding. It has grown to 22 employees with projections to double that in 2017 and triple revenue.
"We build digital marketing and web analytics tools," Augustin explained. "We are a software company and our product is a suite of digital marketing and analytics tools specifically built for organizers of live events. We help them get a grip on their web presence and use data to do intelligent digital marketing campaigns to grow their event. Our differentiator is our laser focus on this event niche."
Augustin's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to read Ash Maurya's Running Lean. "It's the most bang for your buck for getting implementation factors out of it," he said. "It's the third derivative of Steve Blank's customer discovery mantra The Lean Startup. It basically gives you a system to prove yourself wrong and in that process, you’ll find something right. Accept the fact that your first idea is wrong. Embrace that. Get excited about finding out why you're wrong and pivot."
