After graduating from Long Island University with a Communications Degree, Anthony Messina, Owner of StriperCuz Creative, spent several years in the Northeast working in film production, video editing and storytelling. When an opportunity presented itself to move to New Smyrna Beach in 2016 and start his own business, he took it. Messina shared the story behind his journey and detailed his way of creating exposure for small businesses looking for creative ways to reach their target audience.
“While still living in the Northeast, I gained a lot of experience telling digital stories through video editing,” Messina said. “I worked in New York City for Alltrue.com where I filmed and edited video clips for online streaming. The content produced was unscripted, featuring hidden camera pranks on unsuspecting people in NYC. Later on, in my career I worked for Forever Films Inc. on the East End of Long Island. I edited many TV commercials for 1.800.OKCable – a cable conglomerate service provider, similar to Spectrum. I also edited a feature documentary called Out Late and learned the true art of storytelling.”
Messina continued, “Along the way, I did some freelance video stuff as well. I worked with Inside Lacrosse Magazine where I filmed Division I Men’s lacrosse games for Hofstra and Stony Brook Universities. I would later edit the game footage, including post-game reactions, to create a two minute hi-light reel.”
Messina spent a couple years in Charleston, SC – still doing videography as a hobby – before moving to New Smyrna Beach to be closer to family. After a few years of waiting tables, Messina decided to turn his life-long passion into an actual business.
“I figured ‘what better time than now to produce short form videos since digital content is all around us’,” he said. “I figured I could make short stories that focus on products and/or services as a way to help other businesses reach and connect with more customers. January 2020 is when I really got the ball rolling.”
According to Messina, StriperCuz Creative develops short form promotional videos that will engage new and old customers. These films tell the unique story that has created the foundation for each individual business. A one-or two-minute video can be broadcasted on a company's web site and social media channels for maximum exposure.
“What makes us unique, compared to other similar businesses, is that, as the owner of StriperCuz Creative, I am the videographer, editor and motion graphic artist. I can work one on one with a client to custom tailor any creative idea. I truly enjoy creating an audio and visual experience that grabs the attention of the audience.”
Earlier this year, Messina connected with EarthPerks Farm, in Ormond Beach. He created two videos that document one farmers passion for Mother Earth and his community. Short videos like this show other businesses how video can enhance their marketing efforts. By networking and attending expos, he hopes to connect with other local businesses interested in utilizing his services.
What advice does Messina have for aspiring entrepreneurs? “Never stop creating and learn as much as possible along the way.”
