Bob Diamond, founder of Xeleum Lighting, which was named one of GrowFL's Companies To Watch for 2016, is a serial entrepreneur who always seems to be on the forefront of technology market trends. Currently with Xeleum Lighting, a designer and manufacturer LED lighting products, Diamond co-founded CIDCO Inc. in the early days of caller ID and is a holder of a caller ID patent. He was also a co-founder of Xanboo Inc., developer of the first smart home management system with real-time video, notification and device control that enabled users to control and monitor their homes or businesses from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Xanboo was purchased by AT&T in 2010.
Diamond continues to innovate at Xeleum Lighting. "Many of our products boast unique features not typically found on LED products," he said. "Our stairwell fixtures communicate with each other wirelessly so that maximum efficiency is achieved in energy consumption because the lights are on full brightness only when the stairwells are occupied and only the adjacent landings are illuminated. Information is transmitted so that direction of motion is known by the system and occupants are always surrounded by illumination when there is no activity the lighting is reduced to dim but visible."
Being honored by GrowFL as a Company To Watch is humbling to Diamond. "I believe it means that we've been noticed and we are flattered by it," he said. "We are one of the few companies that do what we do located here in Palm Beach County so it is nice to receive that recognition."
Diamond's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is layered. "It takes perseverance," he said. "Be prepared for things to take longer than you think they'll take. Be properly capitalized. Understand the business you're going into and your competitors and do your best to understand the things that differentiate your products from others."
