Cesar Borri, founder of Safety Plus International, L.L.C., wanted to be the master of his own destiny after experiencing a round of corporate layoffs at Canon U.S.A., so he decided to launch his own business. "I had spent 20 years with Canon," he said. "I don't look at retirement as something I want to do and thought I needed to come up with something to control my own destiny. I didn't want to just go with a competitor and see the same fate a couple of years later."
After doing some research and exploring industry connections, Borri launched Safety Plus International. "We provide safety products to help companies meet safety regulations and provide a safe workplace," he said. "We help companies by consulting with them to determine their safety goals and exactly what is needed for compliance before providing them with safety solutions.
Launched in 2009, Borri has been taking advantage of many entrepreneurial resources and in 2016 is headquartered at the UCF Business Incubator in Kissimmee. He has utilized CareerSource, SCORE, SBDC, SBA, and the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund, which helped him with his business plan and to acquire a business loan.
Borri's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to do your homework and focus your efforts. "Make sure it is the industry you want to pursue and focus on," he said. "It's easy to get sidetracked when you start as an entrepreneur. You need to focus and master one thing at a time before exploring other areas of the business."
