Originally from Lima, OH, Dustin Hunt, Owner of Full Scope Inspections, relocated to Citrus County in 2012 to be closer to family. He spent four years with the Citrus County Parks and Recreation Department before deciding it was time to reignite his entrepreneurial fire. Hunt shared the story behind his journey and how he's working hard to establish Full Scope Inspections as Citrus County's premier home inspection business.
"My background is in residential construction," Hunt said. "I've also had some other small businesses in the past. I had a carpet cleaning business and a landscaping business in Ohio. Towards the end of my time with the county, I started thinking about long-term opportunities and home inspection was something that intrigued me, especially with my construction background. About a year and a half ago I decided to go for it and haven't looked back since."
Full Scope Inspections is a home inspection company that provides residential home inspections, light commercial inspections, 4-Point Inspections, wind mitigations, aerial imaging and more for Citrus and the surrounding counties. Hunt is committed to providing the highest quality professional services in the industry. He uses field-trained inspectors with continued education to help stay atop the every changing industry. Full Scope also uses the latest inspection software as well as the newest drone technology to bring the 'Full Scope' to every inspection.
New to home inspections, but not business ownership, Hunt shared some of the early challenges he experienced and how he plans to grow the business.
"It's definitely a competitive market," he said. "There are quite a few home inspectors out there. Unfortunately, many customers will shop based on price and that's hard to compete with. In reality, they should shop based on quality. To stay on top of changes within the industry and to keep my quality up, I make sure I'm up-to-date on my continued education."
Hunt continued, "Having past business experience, I had the knowledge of what it takes to start a business and how tough it can be, but there's also no better time to start a business. With social media and other platforms, there are so many ways to promote your business. The opportunity is definitely there if you want to do something."
Hunt expanded his network and built relationships through the Realtors Association of Citrus County, The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and by joining Affiliated Professionals of Citrus County, a local networking group for business owners. He answers his own phones, does his own scheduling and treats each client with the utmost respect and professionalism.
"When people call, you want to be serviceable," he said. "You also need to be accountable. The growth of Full Scope Inspections is entirely up to me."
As a top-rated Elite Pro on Home Advisor, Hunt enjoys building relationships with each client. He also enjoys helping to educate, inform and guide clients through the home buying process and beyond. Looking ahead, his goals for Full Scope are to continually grow the business year after year and to become a name people can trust with their home inspection needs.
What advice does Hunt have for aspiring entrepreneurs? "If the passion and drive is within you, then go for it," he said. "It's not always easy, but the reward in the end is well worth it."
