Jack Richards, founder of Jack Richards Insurance Agency, got a taste for entrepreneurship early on in life and it stuck.
"Having been in business with my father and growing up in it, I got that entrepreneurial flavor, and it was always something I enjoyed doing," Richards said. "I've always enjoyed working for myself or a family concern more so than for large company. In the long run I felt I could do better working for myself than working for a company that controlled my future. I wanted to control my own destiny."
Richards agency employs three and specializes in employee benefits, business continuity planning and executive benefits.
"Our personalized service is what really separates us," he explained. "We're small enough that we can give very dedicated, personal attention to each client. We've been in the business long enough to know where to go to get answers and get things done with carriers. That in itself is worth a lot."
Richards' advice for aspiring entrepreneurs centers on passion and perseverance. "Be passionate about what you're setting out to do and be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen," he said. "You can't give up easily. You have to keep on keeping on even though you feel like quitting 1,000 times a day. Overcome obstacles and persevere. Make adjustments and changes as you need to."
