Jackie Buckingham, founder of A Scent To Remember, comes from a family of entrepreneurs so when she lost her job as a medical assistant, her father suggested she strike out on her own and replicate his Maryland success down south in Florida.
"My dad makes and sells potpourri up north along with other country crafts so that's how I got into the aroma business," she said. "We started at the Hand Made Market in Flagler Beach, added other farmers markets and by the end of the year, we learned through a casual conversation about the availability of the space we're in now on Central Ave."
Buckingham uses natural products and essential oils, including many vegan, cruelty free, kosher and organic ingredients to produce here aromas. "What we do is nostalgia reinvented," she explained. "We recreate memories from long ago with aromatherapy to foster a relaxing environment to make you happy."
Buckingham's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to be different. "Check the markets out to see what's out there so you can set your product apart from what others are doing," she said. "Figure out how you can make it special in your own way so that customers will want to come back. If you have strong customer service and a quality product, customers will come back."
