John Krotec, founder of GreenZone Hero, is a serial entrepreneur who launched this social-cause commerce generating company because he wanted to create a legacy company that helped build commerce for millions of people nationwide.
"I worked in corporate America after college, but was getting burned out by the 80+hour work weeks working for someone else," he said. "I decided I wanted to go to law school and saw the Army was offering a college fund so I enlisted at 27. When I got out, the plan changed. I got married and we decided we wanted to be in business for ourselves. I saw an opportunity to sell high-end travel and outdoor gear in our marketplace. We did that successfully for 23 years. After the sale of the family busines, I decided I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. I found the right partners, loyal people who believed in the mission to create more commerce for companies that honor our veterans, active military and their families, and that's how GreenZone Hero was born."
GreenZone Hero is a veteran-friendly business association that provides companies with tools to enter the $1 trillion veteran marketplace.
"There are a few web directories that are primarily for veteran-owned businesses and I applaud them. We're the first to create a web portal for any company, veteran or non-veteran owned, that wants to get a competitive edge," Krotec explained. "We provide a web platform for companies that may not have a website or want to upload video, we have a best practices manual, digital marketing tools, a Gold Star business program, and a radio show. We've also created a patented medal system to highlight what companies do for veterans, whether its hiring, discounts, or donations."
Krotec's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is that perseverance is the key to success.
"Don’t give up," he said. "Never quit. Network. Network. Network. Find the right people to work with. If you do your homework, you can start to make things happen. There are days you won't be having a great time, but there are also days it's very rewarding. I'm a firm believer in if you’ve got an idea and a vision, then you make it happen."
