Kelly Green, founder of the interior design and furniture retail company Peace Love Home, saw an unserved local market niche three years ago. "There really isn't another retail store in St. Augustine in my category," Green said. "You have to drive to Jacksonville to find the styles of home décor that I carry." That drive to Jacksonville is one of the motivating factors for Green to launch her own business in Oct. 2013.
Green had been working in the mortgage banking industry in Jacksonville while living in St. Augustine. The long commute and the volatile mortgage banking industry were what inspired her to strike out on her own. She had long been interested in interior design, visiting furniture preview shows with friends and helping them with their homes in addition to her own. All she needed was to get started. "It's all about believing in yourself and taking that leap," she said. "You're going to work hard anyway so you might as well do it for yourself and having the faith and courage to take that leap is critical."
Since launching, Peace Love Home has grown to 5 part time employees and has a strong presence locally as a premier interior design firm. It is a small locally owned retail furniture store stocking contemporary to coastal pieces and everywhere in between. Green's favorite business reads are Malcolm Gladwell's Blink and Freakonomics by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt.
