Kia served in the United States Navy for 6 years before deciding to pursue her entrepreneur ambitions. Her passion for music eventually lead her to form her own Public Relations company in 2004 while living in Jacksonville. She relocated to Polk County to attend Polk State College with the goal of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology.
During her studies, Kia was blessed to receive an internship at the Winter Haven Economic Development Council. This opportunity combined with mentors from Polk State College like College President Dr. Ilene Holden lead her to form Data B.I.T.S, LLC in 2016. She also hired George E. Williams II, a fellow graduate of Polk State College’s Business Information Technology program as the Chief Operations Officer.
The company focuses on giving college students on the job training in the Business Information Technology field so when they graduate they will have a degree and experience to move forward. Kia encourages other entrepreneurs to know your worth as a business owner and be willing to say “no” to customers who don’t value you. In addition, recognize that you can only do so much on your own.
Kia has been nominated for the Polk County Emerging Leaders Award presented by the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce.
