Kristi started her entrepreneurial career in the 1990's after putting herself through nursing school and then becoming a legal nurse consultant for law firms. She recognized that there was a need for nurses to use their medical knowhow at a professional level as a consultant to lawyers and get paid for it. Her most recent business venture also stems from her involvement in the healthcare setting.
She has identified a way to help prevent the spread of healthcare acquired infections by improving the way a commonly used medical instrument is handled. She researched and wrote her own patent, and with the help of a local patent attorney, filed it in October 2015. Through networking and utilizing the SBDC Daytona, 1 Million Cups and the UCF Business Incubator - Volusia County, she has developed a working prototype and is currently getting in contact with local manufacturing companies.
Kristi's advice to other entrepreneurs is to always recognize that your idea or project is never going to be cared about by others as much as you care about it yourself. For that reason, be prepared to work very hard, put yourself out there, and make sure that you are recognizable so people know who you are and what you are capable of. Sara Blakely, the founder of SPANX has been an inspiration to Kristi on her journey.
