Learn about Florida Entrepreneur Michel Lacerda Baitelli:
Originally from Brazil, Michel Lacerda Baitelli, Owner and Operator of Wow 1 Day Painting, identified the Orlando area as the perfect place to start a new business. As Baitelli explained, it wasn't easy, but the time was right to make the move.
"The Brazilian economy is not doing well," he said. "There's no short-term chance for recovery. For the safety of my family and for new opportunities, I knew it was time to leave. Orlando represented a better and friendlier business environment. It's a growing city with an international airport and a climate similar to Brazil. It made sense for a lot of reasons."
Since Baitelli maintains European citizenship, he decided to utilize the E2 Investment Visa as a way to move to the United States and start his own business. With a background in business development and supply chain management, Baitelli was more than equipped to take on a new endeavour. After looking at several different franchise ideas, including a cleaning business, a property management business and an IT business, he ultimately decided on Wow 1 Day Painting. Baitelli explained this decision and why the Wow 1 Day Painting brand represented such a good opportunity.
"After looking at the demand for service based businesses, I found that painting was a good one," he said. "This is especially true in the Orlando area. Wow 1 Day Painting prides itself on customer service and efficiency. For many jobs, with the use of large teams, we're able to complete the project in just one day. Also, the franchise is part of another brand called O2E Brands. The other brand in their portfolio is 1-800-GOT-JUNK. The CEO of O2E Brands knows how to take ordinary businesses and turn them into excellent businesses that wow people. WOW 1 DAY PAINTING brings people a fast, affordable and high quality solution for all of their interior or exterior residential, commercial and industrial painting projects."
Baitelli shared that he spent much of January and February in the United States and Canada training, leasing an office, buying supplies, leasing vehicles, hiring employees and getting the business ready for a July launch. With a territory that includes Lake Nona, Windermere, Winter Park and Downtown Orlando, Baitelli is optimistic that he'll reach his five year goals.
"The franchisor gives you a tremendous amount of support when it comes to marketing and advertising," he said. "In addition, our vehicles are wrapped, we utilize lawn signs and we're active on most social media channels. For my part, networking with other businesses that might need a painter will be huge for our growth. Our five year plan is to have approximately 40 painters on staff and to have yearly revenue of $1.6 Million."
What advice does Baitelli have for aspiring entrepreneurs? "My advice, specifically for others thinking about an E2 Visa, is to buy an existing business," he said. "That way, you already have a flow of income. Of course, with this route, there are cons. You want to make sure you really do your due diligence. In terms of general advice, it's important to have a good attorney and, if you're looking at a business to buy into, you want to make sure it has a strong brand name and a good value proposition."
