What is your company description and what makes your company unique?

We help organizations see risk and fraud in public company financial statements before it hits the news and its too late. The company leaders have over 5 decades of complementary experiences in fraud and financial crimes risk management. We have built fraud risk programs for some of the largest financial services companies and their clients. We still are trusted advisors to several.

How did you get into entrepreneurship?

I've always worked in roles that encouraged calculated risk-taking to get the maximum outcomes for all concerned - whether that was in UK law enforcement, property casualty insurance designing industry first investigation programs for Travelers Insurance, or leading fraud risk for Citigroup across 150 countries. This entrepreunerial co-founder role with Fraud Doctor to create Sota Signal Analytics allows me to work within a partnership where we get to fully own and prioritize the problems we choose to tackle, and in turn align all the knowledge, experiences and collaborative relationships we've built across our careers to full effect.

Why do you do what you do?

I've witnessed over many decades the human and social harms that very predictable and preventable fraud risks have created. I've been fortunate to gain the skills and experiences to do something about it that can make a significant impact for many.

What tools, resources or books have you used to start and/or grow your business?

We've researched, considered and where feasible taken full advantage of every free resource that counties in the Tampa Bay area offer. Accelerators, SCORE, Tampa Bay Innovation Center, professional associations, Meetups. Most of all we made a commitment to contribute what we had to give in the spirit of learning. I have a policy of writing to every author, expert and researcher that published anything I read and could learn from. Ive been astounded how many have replied and continued to offer their help for me and my clients to benefit from. The Tampa Bay Innovation Center B2B Accelerator pointed us to Mike Maples Starting Greatness podcast Its a must for entrepreneurs in focusing on whats important and whats others ideas on advice that may not help you at all. Just them.

Why did you choose to locate your business in Florida?

I've been fortunate to call Tampa home for 20 years. I grew up in the UK and as much as we've participated in innovation sandboxes in London remotely and there is something very satisfying about being the only US firm (and female founded company) to be selected to participate in such an event in the UK, I've witnessed the way Tampa Bay has evolved over the last decade or more. Its no longer a place to business with great benefits of weather and lower taxes than the Northeast. Its base of diverse professionals that have led some of the most admired companies and their business operations are right here. They were just a well kept secret waiting for a way to tell their story.

What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?

Understand that being an entrepreneur is be definition about taking risk that many would not to potentially achieve uncommon rewards that few get to experience. It's not for everyone, but everyone has the option to see themselves being one, if they are willing to go all in. If your ego wont let you be seen to risk failure or fail publicly, then you may not want to do this.

If you have attempted to build a business like ours bottom up and you have lessons to share, so that we don't need to learn them the hardest way, we would love to hear your journey.
