Robert Riis, founder of A Clear View Window Cleaning Plus, launched his company inspired by the flexibility inherent in being his own boss.
"I spent almost 21 years as a sales manager for Anheuser-Busch distributor," he said. "My 11-year-old son was struggling through school because we had to wake him up at 4am so we could get to work. Something had to give. I researched what it takes to start your own business. I talked with my brother who owns his own business and another contractor friend. They said you have to give it a shot. I jumped off the mountain head first. I bought the tools and a year later we're doing OK."
A Clear View Window Cleaning Plus primarily provides window cleaning services to residential and commercial clients. It also provides gutter and soffit cleaning in addition to select pressure washing services.
"I stand out with my service and stand behind it 100 percent," Riis explained. "I like to walk around with the client to look at the work I've done and make sure they're 100 percent happy with it before I leave. That improves their satisfaction and decreases callbacks."
Riis's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to just do it. "Definitely go for it," he said. "You don't want to go through life thinking "What if?' If you try it and go for it, give it all you have. You have to put the legwork in. You have to give it time to get the ball rolling. There were a few times in the early months I was sitting twirling my thumbs questioning what I had done."
