Scott Benjamin, co-founder of Tank America, is a serial entrepreneur in diverse industries such as medical, real estate and food service. In 2017, he is entering the entertainment world.
"I think there is a push toward fully-engaged, indoor/outdoor gaming and entertainment versus entirely indoor video games where there's not enough physical adventure," he said. "People love getting out of the house, solving problems and getting physically engaged. I think this kind of entertainment is a growing area and that people are looking for new ways to get out and be entertained."
Tank America is a military-themed amusement park that will have actual tanks that patrons can drive on a half mile course in addition to a laser combat area.
"Patrons will be able to drive the tanks through woods and rugged terrain, including obstacles, hills and the option to crush cars with the tank," Benjamin said. "We'll also have armored personnel carriers or APCs. We'll have briefing sessions that will give a little history of tanks and how they were used in war, a ton of replica guns and weapons that patrons can handle, play with, and learn about. We also have a 20,000-square-foot building that houses a high-end tactical laser combat arena where patrons can shoot military-grade laser tag weapons with CO2 recoil and noise in a very tactical arena. We haven't seen this combination done anywhere in the country and we're excited about it."
Benjamin's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to take action on your idea.
"Don’t be afraid to take the first step," he said. "Get the idea off paper. I'm also on the entrepreneurship faculty at Florida Institute of Technology. Ideas are a dime a dozen. The students that impress me the most are the ones who actually build a prototype or incorporate and talk to customers and sell something. I love helping entrepreneurs so if someone reads my profile and says I want to have coffee with this guy, then I'll be happy to help."
