For over twenty years, Steven and Kathy Cataldi, Owners of C&S Vinyl Fence, and their team of creative vinyl experts have proudly served the residents of Citrus County and the surrounding areas. As a family-owned business, the Cataldi’s take great pride in providing quality vinyl fences backed by lifetime warranties and exceptional customer service. Steven and Kathy, originally from New York and Texas, respectively, shared the story behind their journey and how they work hard to stand out from the competition.
“After serving four years in the United States Army and another four with the Army National Guard, I took a job as an armed Nuclear Security Officer here in Crystal River,” Steven said. “I officially retired a year ago after 28 years with the Crystal River Nuclear Plant. We started the business well before I retired.”
Kathy added, “We started the business before we were even married. We started small. We had $2 post hole diggers and a small red Ford Ranger. It took a long time before we started making any money. What money we did make, we reinvested back into the business.”
Steven shared that, in the beginning, the biggest challenge was juggling two jobs. He’d work at the Plant during the day and put up fences at night and on the weekends. Nevertheless, he and Kathy pressed on and remained committed to making it work.
Today, through hard work and persistence, C&S Vinyl Fence is one of the premier vinyl fencing contractors in Citrus County. They’re also a true family-owned business. The Cataldi’s son is an installer and their granddaughter works in the office as an administrative assistant. Kathy handles the backend while Steven does estimates and works to promote the business.
“We’ve been on Google for almost eight years now,” Steven said. “Our reviews speak for themselves. In addition to custom vinyl fences, including, privacy fence, picket fence, pool code fence and pet fence, we also do gates and porch and patio railing. Unlike many competitors, we don’t utilize subcontractors. We do all the work ourselves. We also answer the phone 24/7, nights and weekends. I had one guy who said he called five companies and we were the only ones to answer the phone. We’re always there for our customers. We're not always the cheapest but we have the best quality materials.”
Steven and Kathy, who thoroughly enjoy meeting new customers and providing a superior product to the residents of Citrus County, are still very much in growth mode. They’re building the business through word-of-mouth and by delivering on-time quality results. The ultimate goal is to build the business to the point where they can retire in 10 years.
Steven and Kathy have some great advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. “Do good work and take care of your customers,” Steven said. “It’s that simple”. Kathy added, “You can start small and build it up. That’s what we did. We also reinvested our earnings back into the business.”
