Our family manufactures (in Dade City) a fresh delicious salsa product, which can be found at specific retail partner locations throughout the county. We manufacture and sell wholesale & retail. We also participate in many pop up market events through out the county where we offer free samples. Fresh - delicious and "just right" heat level. Sold wholesale in a variety of size / package options.
What is your company description and what makes your company unique?
How did you get into entrepreneurship?
We are proud members of the Pasco county Smartstart program which offers use of a commercial kitchen - which without the commercial kitchen we could not have brought our salsa product to the market. Our family has created this recipe over many years of trial and effort to reach an "excellent" mix of flavor & heat. (10 years we have worked on this "just right" recipe" and we are so very happy to have our product now on the store shelves. Sharing delicious - and most nutritious low calorie salsa with our community while helping generate recurring revenue for our retail partners.
Why do you do what you do?
We love what we do for many reasons, first it's a family business which means our family works together on the success of Piperz Salsa. Our youngest daughter Piper will be a senior at Mitchell High School next year and she has grown so very much in this process & she is very active in the processing, selling, distribution & book keeping and social media aspects of the business. Our family has grown closer by building a small business "together" #2. We offer our community a delicious & highly nutritious food snack product that is low calorie and "good for you" and it tastes "amazing" #3. Our retail partnerships - are a way for small business to support each other. Our product generates recurring revenue for our small business partners and we love that ! #3 It's so much fun to have pop up events and offer free samples and share our story and product with our community. We all love this part of the business. We are having so much fun! The reception from the public / consumers has been beyond our expectations for a new business name / brand. We are so grateful !
What tools, resources or books have you used to start and/or grow your business?
We have all three participated in the co-starters program for entrepreneurship that Pasco county offered this year. I (Wanda Cox) have been in sales all of my life and have served the public with real estate services for almost 10 years. We have benefitted from the tools and mentor / networking events that Pasco EDC offer. Always learning and growing. Piper plans to stay local and attend PHSC & earn her business degree. We are very proud of her direction. The launch of Piperz Salsa with the help of Pasco EDC has inspired our daughter & given her future direction & we could not be more grateful !
Why did you choose to locate your business in Florida?
We have been FL residents since moving here for a job transfer from Joplin MO in 2010. We landed in Pasco county and our daughter Piper began K here and will graduate next year from Mitchell High. It is our home and we love Pasco county FL.
What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Journal your journey. Take notes - ask lots of questions, follow your passionate indicators ! Share your story ! Mistakes are not mistakes they are learning "what did not work". Learn what does not work and move forward with what does work. Don't be hard on yourself. Celebrate each success no matter how small it may seem. Network with other entrepreneurs. Not everyone will say YES to your goods or services. Don't sweat it if they say no.. move on - your so much closer to the YES ! Learn from each opportunity you have to pitch your business. Each time you do, you get better at pitching. Set goals. Keep good book keeping records.
How can other entrepreneurs help you?
Try our Piperz Salsa product & offer feedback. Introduce our product to store owners who would be a good fit to carry our salsa product. Follow us on FB @PiperzSalsa - Introduce us to opportunities such as ball game vendor opp's so we can share / sell our product - or commercial institutions (schools) who may want to offer fresh salsa on the menu. Help our small business locate a facility we can rent that will work for us - when we outgrow the community kitchen we are using now.
